THE EFFECT OF ANCHORAGE LEVEL OF RETAINING WALL ON ITS CAPACITY.................................................18 Kazimierz Furtak, Mariusz Hebda, Zbigniew Skoplak The article describes part of a larger project concerning reconstruction of S7 express road linking Myślenice and Pcim. Short distance between the Raba river and steep mountain slope and low capacity soil, made it necessary to alter the original construction project and apply a retaining wall. The new solution was considered more favorable than the originally planned gabions. The wall was to be anchored with TITAN micro piles on one or more levels, depending on the wall height. However, monolithically joined pile walls and the wall meant that the construction scheme had to be changed.
INFLUENCE OF SHAFT LIQUIDATION METHOD ON THE SURFACE COLLAPSE HAZARD................................22 Piotr Czaja, Adam Gąsiorczyk After finishing mine operations, all galleries and shafts lining cannot be continually controlled by the mining teams. In such cases the problem of mine?s long-term stability in condition of the dynamic geological and others processes is very difficult for description. From the land owner point of view surface destruction hazard is very important. The results of some underground process can be observed at the surface even dozens or hundreds of the years. Very interesting results of the observations and protection works around closed down in 1906 year mining shaft ?Wattensheid" in Bochum (Germany) has been shown in the paper. In some day of the year 2000 two very large craters were created at the surface near the forgotten shaft even in the years of 1980 some protection injections has been done. Example presented in the paper should be a warning for all designers of shaft liquidation and post-mining land owners.
THE NEW COMMUNICATION IMAGE OF KRAKÓW CITY CENTER IN THE BEGINNING OF 21ST CENTURY........32 Alina Ryż, Karol Ryż The fast developing city population along with rapid growth of urban areas has created an urgent need for building new communication infrastructure, including new streets, crossroads, roundabouts, tramway lines, as well as the modernisation of the existing infrastructure. For Krakow agglomeration the last couple of years have been a time of growing development and changes in the city?s communication system. The basic elements of these projects are new facilities for mass transport such as railway station, new route stops, bus and couch station and parking areas. The city is apparently trying to make up for neglecting the development in previous years, when the economical restrictions or sometimes limited imagination were the reasons for holding up new investments.
STRENGER TUNNEL.................................................................................................................................................50 Rudof Pöttler, Franz Starjakob, Daniel Spöndlin The Strenger Tunnel forms part of the S16 four-lane expressway between Landeck and Bludenz. The construction of this east-west connection started in 1973 as a part of larger road project. To limit the excavation works and to save costs, the symmetrical axis of the tunnel was chosen to be perpendicular to the roadway and was thus adjusted to the crossfall. Fault zones with squeezing ground which were expected to be encountered in short section, unfortunately turned out to run parallel to the alignment in the central tunnel section for a rather long strech. structural members like girders and slabs. Nonetheless using that method is limited. The problem appears when load-carrying ability after strengthening with CFRP materials does not reach operational requirements. What to do in such case? The solution could be reducing weight of the structure by replacing conventional (usually RC) deck by the lighter one, made of FRP. ?Saved" dead load would let increase value of live load. The idea seems to be sensible. The paper presents description of this FRP material, methods of production of FRP elements, FRP decks and some examples of their application.
LOGISTIC MANAGEMENT OF CONSTRUCTION PROJECTS..................................................................................58 Anna Sobotka There is a possibility to introduce modern forms of organization and logistic management conceptions in construction projects, construction companies and in general in construction industry. Logistic management covers a performance of planning, organizing, piloting and controlling logistic processes in order to meet strategic objective in area of logistic. Knowledge of logistic process mechanism and possibility of usage proper instruments which support logistic decision is essential for increase of effectiveness construction performance. Such knowledge is delivered by detailed research of logistic processes and systems in construction companies. That research allows defining a strategy and method of its implementation considering new trends in economy. This paper presents the results of logistic process research in construction companies, which pointing out a must of method and conception logistic management adjustment for realization construction project condition changes. The research results provide a election basis for logistic service performance examination adequate for nowadays trends in management and realization construction performance systems. There is also a presentation of two logistic system models with diversification of logistic passage structure and method conducting and logistic decision influence on system quality management indicator in terms of logistic expenditure. The paper emphasizes a must of complex logistic process planning and management during life cycle of construction project.
